The First Pre-congress Meeting of the Nomenclature Section, XIX International Botanical Congress (IBC), was successfully held on April 24th 2014 in Shenzhen, China. Representatives from the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT), including Dr. Sandra Knapp, Dr. Karol Marhold, Dr. John McNeill and Dr. Nicholas Turland, plus ten more experts of plant/fungi taxonomy from a series of institutes in China attended the meeting.
The meeting included nine special presentations and a discussion section. A brief introduction on the organization and function of IAPT and its Nomenclature Section was presented, with special reference to their support for biological nomenclature. Some modifications of the nomenclature code about electronic publishing in the Melbourne Congress and their influence in the post-Melbourne ages were summarized basing on detailed data, and the trend of biological nomenclature was also addressed. An overview of history of plant taxonomy in China, some recent achievements (e.g., the Fungal Names Registration System) as well as some considerations for the 2017 IBC were introduced.
