"The phoenixes
dwelled in Wutong Mountain, and the fairies played in the pool of
the Heaven".Wutong Mountain with cloud and mist surround year
round, giving it a blurred and unreal appearance, topping "Xin'an's
Eight Scenic Spots" in ancient times, densely wooded and with
winding streams, is the highest peak in Shenzhen. It is among such
a wonderful mountain that Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is
located.
The garden with an
area of 590 hectares was begun to build in 1982, and opened to the
public on May 1, 1988. It is a base primarily for cientific research
and education as well as tourist attraction. A range of scenic spots
has been constructed in the garden.
There are such sixteen
collections with more than 3,000 species conserved in the garden
as ex situ conservation center for cycads, magnolia garden, petrified
forest, cacti & succulents , palm garden, gymnosperms, rare
& endangered trees garden, bamboos garden, cycad garden, shade
plants garden, medical plants garden, fruits garden, aquatic plants

Covered with lush lawns
and dotted with coconut and palm trees, the plam garden presents
a strong tropical landscape. In shade plants garden, insectivorous
plants are on the look out for prey while brightly-colored Oncidium
orchids look like maids in an imperial palace performing beautiful
dances. In the petrified forest, the agated woods proudly stand
upright, and their rings and grains were never obliterated in the
hundreds of millions years, and it seems to tell the great change
of the earth. In the desert greenhouse, cacti and succulents vie
with each other for glamour. In the first rays of the morning sun,
the ring of bells and the recitation of scriptures in the temple
fill people with deep veneration, In the setting sun, the garden
is so picturesque with the bright ripples spreading on the lake
and the green trees and pavilions reflected in the water......What
a wonderful and intoxicating garden! |
